Great Patios and Why You'll Love Them!

Story By Karen Hawthorne

Soak up the charm and the sunshine! Patio season is here, for sangria and ice buckets of beer, lunch overlooking the water, or cocktails under patio lanterns –

Scugog has the best spots for outdoor dining, casual drinks and full-on relaxing.

Because that’s what our brief, beautiful Canadian summers are all about. More time outdoors with friends and family. More time in the sun with sandals and sunglasses (and a thirst-quenching beverage). Some like to say patio season is the most wonderful time of the year.

And we make the most of it. In fact, we’re devoted to patio season! Port Perry is a small town – just one reason why we love it – with a dozen awesome patios to kickback and enjoy.

Here’s a roundup of five local favourites and why you are going to love them:

Pickles & Olives Bistro

110 Water St., Port Perry

This cozy bistro has an inviting patio with big umbrellas and a view of Lake Scugog. This is a great spot to enjoy a glass of wine and fabulous pizza. Finger food was made for patios, so try the signature gourmet pie with artichoke hearts, sundried tomato, spinach, goat cheese, mozzarella and tomato sauce. Or the mushroom pie with alfredo sauce, asiago, arugula and Port Olive Oil truffle oil finish. Owners Chef Kosta and Anica Ristevki also run the Port Olive Oil Co. tasting bar and shop on Mary Street. Foodie central!

Colonel Mustard’s Pub & Grill

15 Water St., Port Perry

Close to the water, here’s a watering hole with plenty of pub favourites and live music on Friday nights that will get you up dancing. The patio atmosphere is friendly and low-key, so you can linger over weekend brunch or afternoon nachos and a pitcher. If you’re looking for a casual hangout, this is it!

Boathouse Grill

215 Water St.

Lake Scugog is a destination for boaters. Whether you’re docking your boat at one of the Port Perry Marina’s slips or just enjoying the waterfront, the Marina’s café is right at the heart of the action. Which makes hanging out on the Boathouse Grill patio a relaxing spot for ice cream, lunch or drinks to keep you cool. Sit at one of the old-school picnic tables with a wide umbrella for shade and savour those French fries. Simple pleasures!
